THG3000 modem mode

Hi,

Have recently had fibre Pro broadband installed with the THG3000 router.

The WiFi is so bad that I'm looking for alternative routers to provide WiFi.

Is there a way to set the THG3000 into modem only mode and then use a separate WiFi router?

Have tried a few routers I have around the place but none connect to the ethernet connection from the open rech fibre box.

Thanks for your help

On the other thread, someone posted a config file. What it is for, and how you use it I have no idea.

If you are still unable to get it working, I would suggest posting there.

I posted a screenshot of the config of my working 801 on that thread. Ideally if you just copy the settings with your own details that you mentioned earlier you should get it working. If it won't work it's usually due to just one bad/missed setting. Post on that thread or here if you have problems.

Unfortunately this is a non-starter for me, since Vodafone won’t give me the VOIP account details.
I tried asking over the phone twice and via the online chat once.
I was told that they can’t give me the details and that the service won’t work with another router - even after I explained the setup (router plus VoIP adapter).
I even gave them the link to the other thread, but they said that the information should not have been given out.

They even said that I can’t use a 3rd party router, but that’s clearly complete rubbish. What they should just say is that they don’t support 3rd party routers.

It’s very disappointing!
🙁

One positive from all the time on the phone, is that I discovered that the ‘unlimited’ calls to landline or mobile which are included in my package, are only unlimited in terms of the number of calls. But you get charged for any calls over one hour in duration.

That is pretty standard for landline calls from most ISP's. (AFAIK)

Apparently if you contact the complaints team you will be given the details. (or so an earlier post said)

Complaints Code of Practice | Vodafone UK

Let us know if it does work.

Thanks for the suggestion - I’ll give it a go

use your existing "better" router as the DHCP server and use its WAN for connecting to the BT box. Verify its internet is up and running OK. Have the dhcp and WiFi turned off on your VF router and assign it an ip address different to your router but within the same network range.  Then plug them together with a LAN cable. I haven't tried this but I cant see why it wouldn't work.

Didn't work for me. The VF Router has limited setup options and wants to the the unit connected to the VDSL port! I tried, even using it as a a modem/Phone unit and gateway, but it didn't like that either.

@Splodgeink Assuming that you are on FTTC (that's cooper wires to the property) you can stack another router with the VF one, I have done it.

The VF one has to be connected to internet (i.e. BT OpenReach).

Turn off VF DHCP

Turn off VF WiFI

Make VF 192.168.1.1

Plug 2nd router into the LAN sockect of the VF router from the LAN socket of the 2nd router (i.e. LAN to LAN).

Use 2nd router DHCP starting at 192.168.1.2 and ending where you want.

Use 2nd router WiFi

Set 2nd router DNS to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8
