Currently on BT FTTP, using an old BT Home Hub 6 effectively just as a modem (DHCP off, Wifi off), with a Netgear Orbi mesh system attached and running in router mode (HH6 set to forward all traffic through the Orbi IP in DMZ to do achieve this). We also have a landline, used for incoming calls only. I've ordered Full Fibre 500, which seems to come with a Power Hub as the router.
I know I can connect the Orbi direct to the Openreach ONT once installed (and once I get the connect details from Vodafone), at the loss of the landline. From looking round on here, it seems that to use the Vodafone router (and keep use of landline through that) it's always suggested to connect the Orbi in AP mode. Is there anything stopping me doing what I'm currently doing to allow me to continue to use the Orbi system in exactly the same way as I am now with the Orbi able to run in router mode, or does the Vodafone router not allow that? I can't actually remember why I need it to be set up this way rather than run the Orbi in AP mode, it was probably something to do with NAT issues on Xbox, or something to do with my Synology NAS. I just know at the moment, everything works perfectly, and it'd be nice to be able to keep using a landline - it's just handy as older family members tend to call us on it as well as a few other reasons.
It's possible I might be fine with the Vodafone Power Hub router alone, who knows. I only recently discovered we can get by with one fewer Orbi than we have (a wired connection from a satellite no longer needed, and the wifi coverage seems good enough without that node), and I could at a push move the Synology NAS from being wired to the other Orbi satellite to the room with the router in and wire it up directly. Or is the Vodafone Power Hub router not much use? I'm just assuming it's not great, but my Orbi system must be several years old (and probably needs replacing itself - it can only just about handle 500Mbit).
