WiFi Issue - Old Laptop Not Working On New Ultra Hub

Hi everyone,

I just went live with fibre 500 package and Ultra Hub, Apple TV, etc.  Great package.  Except, an older laptop cannot connect by wifi.  Dont get further than’NO INTERNET, SECURED’ and globe instead of a wifi symbol.  I spent too long on a live chat (after finally making it past TOBi, the worst Ai ever), but the tech finally Sid that the problem was in my device, not the network.

This worked just fine with the old BT fibre, so it’s frustrating. The laptop must be about six years old, running an i7 and 8 bg ram.   Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks.

Hi WinTroutman, I was having issues with my older laptop connecting to my router. I ordered the following tiny USB adaptor for £8.49 and now get full speed through the 5GHZ frequency set in the router. Got to be worth a try for a small price :).

Yes.  I see the address, but the app lists it as offline

Thanks.

Sounds like the error is the laptop. With your previous ISP did you ever set a static IP on this laptop? Have you accidentally enabled mac filters in the router's local network settings?

Not that i know of.  The new router was able to assign an ip address.

thanks

It definately sound like something is wrong with the setup in the laptop, I wonder if the Windows Network trouble-shooter would help.

Also, if you have a smartphone, try setting a hotspot on that, and see it that can connect fully via that.

Hi,

I tried the but I think that’s limited to mobile data

Without a proper model number I can only guess as to what's happening. One of these models only has a Realtek RTL8723DE wifi card, which is 1*1 802.11bgn 2.4GHz only. Not 802.11ac compatible.

With the proper model number I'd be able to confirm this.

The model number is on the label underneath.

Oh, and it's a lot older than you think.

I assumed that it would be 2.4 GHZ, but i think that it’s a later card. It shouldn’t matter, as the Hub should cover 2.4 ghz.

I was just guessing at the age, wouldn’t surprise me at all if it’s older.   I think i7 chip is 7500 series.

The idea was to prove the laptop will work (or not) via another connection, I wasn't suggesting it as a long term solution.

No worries, I didn’t think you suggested that.  I had trouble making my hotspot work on wifi, v mobile data.

@WinTroutman If it is only 2.4GHz there's a slight possibility that it doesn't work on channels 12 and 13. This is more frequently seen with some home automation devices.
