I work for a VR company and I'm needing a reliable wifi connection for Oculus airlink. It worked perfectly fine with the Sky router I just left, but the Vodafone one is giving me issues of wifi drops.
My laptop is on 5ghz wifi and so is the Quest. The company VR app I use does a ping test to 8.8.8.8 to check the connection before it continues (I've done a separate ping test and get the same) - it fails 90% of the time when on wifi. I can see the wifi connection using Windows task manager view and both up and downstream hits 0 for a second when I'm using airlink too. Changing the connection to ethernet seems to work fine - no failed pings yet, but I still get random issues with the Quest not holding a constant wifi connection.
I've noticed the channel can't be changed on the Vodafone routers, they seem to be automatic, so if that changed, could that create a wifi drop? I've split the routers wifi, so I'm only using 5ghz too.
I've got about 10 days left of the cooling off period, so I might have to go back to Sky, if I can't get this working in the next week.

Should have added to the original post. I've only got the sky router waiting to go back, which I know works with my requirements. I don't have access to any other router and would prefer not to buy anything else, since I'm paying for a broadband service 😕

Going on vodafone's record for (not) being able to fix problems like this your best option is probably to leave. CS will string you along until you're out of time.
You could get around this by adding an access point (at your own expense) but who knows what other problems are around the corner.

Yea, cheers, you're absolutely right. I know I could fix part of the issue with ethernet cables, but who knows what other wifi issues I'll get. Hate messing with all this, just need it to work. With sky, I just ordered the vodafone service and it automatically cancelled sky, so I'm assuming since I'm within the 14 day period, I can just do the same with vodafone?

In your case I think it would be best to cancel with vodafone before you do anything else. Be assertive or you'll get strung along until your remaining 10 days are gone and you're tied into a contract.

The Wi-Fi on the Vodafone router is usually quite good, so maybe you have a faulty router.
Unfortunately, I suspect returning to Sky won't be quite as seamless as transferring to Vodafone.
I do hope I'm wrong, let us know how it goes.

I spoke to customer services, said I wanted to cancel within my 14 day cooling off period and if I can just order a new service, will that automatically cancel vodafone? They said I need to go through to retentions to order the return label bag. Retentions said they'd need to put in a cancellation date, which is this Monday 17th Oct 2022 and they couldn't change it. Thankfully I was able to book the new provider (YouFibre) while I was waiting on the call and Monday was available for an install. So, I can only cross my fingers now that I'll have no more issues. Thanks for your help - I might have stayed hoping that it would get better, if I didn't ask here, so your responses have been appreciated.

Interesting, I'd not heard of them before. They are using their own fibre network, so a new line will need to be installed to your home. Hope it goes well.
