My mother in law is 80. She has a Vodafone pay as you go phone. It stopped working a few days ago and she was told that she has to purchase a bundle and this will cost her £5 per month. She does not want to pay monthly. Can these bundles be cancelled at any time and she can still use her phone with top ups.

The minimum top up is £5.00 @tcp9458 , I suspect this was the reason for being asked to top up £5.00. No reason for your Mother in Law being unable to continue to use the phone on PAYG 1.  There is further information here: PAYG

Just make sure your Mother in Law, keeps the phone active with some chargeable activity to avoid disconnection this needs to be done ever 180 days, preferable sooner.

She was told she had to have a bundle that will automatically renew at £5 every month. She does not want this. She only uses her phone in emergencies and does not go on the internet. Just phone calls from the top up she purchases. Can she opt out of the bundle

Vodafone did offer a £5.00 bundle but thought this had been discontinued and the minimum BVB bundle now was £10.00. If Vodafone have taken the £5.00 towards a bundle @tcp9458 , she will need to opt out by following this information: How do I remove my Big Value Bundle?

she should also be able to opt out by calling the 2345 top up line.

If she does not want the bundle now, she will need to speak to Vodafone through Customer Service channels and ask them to remove the bundle and return the credit.

It is important for your Mother in Law to keep the SIM active with some outgoing calling activity, 180 days is the cut off deadline for disconnection.
