Using my vodafone sim in the US

Hi I have a 10 GBP big value bundle, and I am soon to go to the US for six weeks.  I want to know if I can use my vodafone sim whilst in the US.  I would only make local calls within the US- no international calls or texts, and I would like data for using maps when driving.
I have spoken to vodafone and also used their live chat support and I got conflicting information.  Live chat said I cannot use the sim, the agent on the phone said I can.

Travelling Abroad  

As use is chargeable and expensive you will need additional credit for your visit to the USA. I would recommend turning off mobile data and use wifi where possible for data use.

Personally I'd choose to make sure my phone is unlocked to all networks and it supports the frequencies and bands of the US Networks and use a local sim card.
