Can I use a 5g sim in a 4g phone and access 4g

I can’t seem to find a definitive answer to confirm that this works.

I have a Apple XR and the contract is now up and am looking to get a SIM only deal. If I purchase the Vodafone current offer of 100gb data (5g) sim only and put this sim in my apple XR will it provide data services over 4g - or do I need to purchase a sim that is not marked for 5g?

Hi @piranha19 

You will be able to access the 5G network with any SIM on a 5G phone but your phone does not support 5G so unfortunatey you won't be able to connect to 5G, but you won't have any issues connecting to 4G.

You need to upgrade through your online account or by speaking to Sales or you will be given a new number.  If your contract has reached it's minimum term you should be in a good position to upgrade to the latest 5G iphone.

All Vodafone UK sim cards are now 5G compliant.

Yes 4G will work just fine.
