Default Notice on Credit Report

On 2nd July 2020 Vodaphone registered a Default Notice with Experian default balance of 16 GBP after a long association with the company paying thousands of pounds without any default since 25th November 2013. Vodafone has registered a Default Notice against my name even though I have received a refund of £19.99 for closing my account.  I even got a notice from Debt collectors i.e., Moorcroft Debt Recovery Limited for which I have contacted the Debt Recovery company and told them about the circumstances after which they have closed my case and stopped chasing me for any outstanding.  In the first instance, I have nothing to pay if at all during the pandemic they firstly did not even bother to send me any communication for the outstanding but send my details to the debt recovery.  I am very much disappointed with the manner in which they dealt with a leaving customer.  When I was paying thousands of pounds in 7 years of association with the company for the mere £16 they put a remark on my credit report to bully me for leaving the company.  Please can you look into the above matter if you still feel I owe your £16, I am happy to pay but please remove the Default Notice on my Credit Report.  Hoping the above issue is resolved ASAP.

The Vodafone Social Media Team's can definitely look into this for you @vijayguttakumar however unfortunately not from your post here as there is no account access via this forum.

They'll ask you to contact them via Facebook Messenger or Twitter DM instead.

Once you've passed security protocols they will then collate the required information and ask their dedicated Credit File Specialist Team to investigate.

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. Cancelled my contract with Vodafone and got a new account/number from Vodafone. I had always used Dırect Debit to pay my bills so I didn't need to follow up. My final bill was generated on the 4th of June 2021 but I haven't received any information. In August 2021 I have received an official letter from Oriel Collections about an unpaid bill. After that letter, I have paid my final bill (£34.80)

Now I am middle of the mortgage process and my credit was refused because of delayed payment. Could you please help with my issues?

I had a gigacube rolling monthly broadband while I was waiting for a telephone line to be installed at home. Once this was installed I unplugged the mobile broadband, continued paying £50 a month for a few months even though I wasn’t using the service. I cancelled the direct debit to cancel the account as it was a rolling contract. I didn’t have any correspondence from Vodafone at all about this account then out of nowhere I received a debt email from a third party. I contacted Vodafone at this point to ensure the account was cancelled. I told them I disputed the charges as I wasn’t using the services and was told the account was closed. A few months later I receive a note on my credit file that I have had a default notice from Vodafone,  no one contacted me about this account or was even asked by Vodafone to make a payment. I then found it incredibly difficult to actually contact Vodafone as the first phone numbers didn’t work, the app didn’t work and the chat system wasn’t great. Nonetheless even though I disagreed with the charges I settled the account in February, however the default notice is still showing on my file and classed as outstanding. 

i can’t seem to reach the right department even though I have simply requested a contact email address for the quality assurance department as stated by Experian as the department I need to contact via the chat bot. Can someone from the quality assurance department please contact me?

Good afternoon @katietuckey - thanks for reaching out to us and letting us know what's been happening. 

All contracts, whether they're 30 days (or through to 24 months) require a cancellation notice for us to cancel them - we wouldn't disconnect someone's service without them requesting it, as we wouldn't want to stop someone's service unexpectedly. 

Cancelling your Direct Debit doesn't then pass on as a cancellation notice, just that we've stopped receiving payment. Your account would have then followed the usual collections path once the balance became overdue - you should have received emails/letters to your registered address to let you know about the balance and also to let you know about the default being applied. 

You can raise a dispute through Experian (or any credit reference agency you choose to use) - it's likely they'll contact us and we'd confirm the balance was valid, as we didn't receive a cancellation request, so the account continued as normal. 

As you've mentioned you've paid the balance, your credit file should be updated to reflect this - please note, the default would remain for 6 years from when it was added - so I can double check everything, please come and chat to my team via Social Media

 

 

Thanks for the below but I had no correspondence from Vodafone to my registered address at all, hence why the balance wasn’t paid. I only knew about the debt when a third party contacted me. 
I was not told about the default in any way at all. This was settled in February and it still open on my Experian file as outstanding.

Unfortunately you cancelled the direct debit for an active account without notifying Vodafone that you wanted to cancel. They treated this then as missed payments and rightfully registered a default. The terms and conditions clearly state you have to give 30 days notice (written or verbal) otherwise the contract will continue.

 

Regardless of paying the outstanding or not, the default will remain for 6 years on your file as you didn’t follow the terms of your contract correctly..
