Keeping number when changing Vodafone deals

Hello everyone

I am currently on a 12 month pay monthly sim only deal which I got from Mobiles.co.uk. I've managed to get another deal as my current one is expiring this month. I spoke to a Vodafone advisor this morning about cancelling my current one and keeping my number when taking the new deal.

I didn't think it would be too difficult as I'm not switching networks. I was told that Vodafones policy had changed so I could only keep the same number if I upgraded directly through Vodafone or went with another provider I.e 02, Three. I was wondering if anyone else was aware of this?

I would go directly through Vodafone but the sim only are so much more expensive than through a third party provider. I'd rather stay with Vodafone and obviously keep the same number.

Thanks

Most people are aware of this. It's a way to stop existing customers easily getting the best deal. All the networks do it.

You need to get a PAYG SIM on another network, PAC your old number to it, then PAC back to your new Vodafone number, and your old number is now on your new plan, and your old plan is cancelled. You might need to top up the PAYG SIM, you might not, you need to look at which network is best to use for the old switcheroo.

Yes it's a faff, a few days of hassle where you might be without service for a few hours, but then that's how you save the money.
