My SIM-only contract is up for renewal in November and I am going to be leaving Vodafone for another network. Nothing against the company, just their best offer does not match that of a rival.
I want to leave on my contract end date and take my number with me using a PAC. Last year I did that with another provider and they billed me for the following month saying this is what happens when you switch using the PAC service. I'm assuming that because PAC is an instant switch, I'm paying my months notice period.
Is there a way to leave whilst keeping my number without paying for an extra month? Could I give my notice period in October and ask for the number to become a PAYG then PAC after the SIM comes out of contract?

The rules have now changed with regards to porting out to another network. You now only pay a notice period if there is any time left on your contract.
For example if you ported out 10 days before your contract end date, you’d be charged the 10 days only, not the previous 30 days notice.
So, if you obtain your PAC a few days before you leave, then submit it the working day BEFORE the end of your contract, it will port on the end date and you’ll pay no more than you should.
