Hello,
im a pay monthly customer. Have had my basics plan since 2019. Roaming has *always* worked in Europe as it does at home.
ive had the text to say “welcome to Spain blah blah blah” use your roaming as normal but it simply doesn’t work.
My phone has already joined the Vodafone ES network and I have absolutely no option to pay the £2.50 roaming fee or whatever it is
phone is iPhone 11, all up to date, tried resetting, turning off roaming, turning it on, reset network settings etc.
Twitter help are fairly useless - keep repeating that it’s a basics plan so roaming won’t work. Can’t tell me why it has always worked in the past, or why I’ve got the message to say roaming will work as it does at home, or why because I bought my plan in 2019 it has suddenly decided that it’s not a roaming plan.
any ideas? I don’t even mind paying the £2.50 to be on the internet for a few days but I literally don’t have any option!

You are a pay monthly customer @NathanT17 , any roaming charges you incur will be added to the monthly bill and taken with direct debit you pay each month. You are connected to Vodafone ES, just make calls etc, but be prepared for the bill at the end of the billing period.
If you are going be paying daily roaming charges, it would be cheaper to opt into a roaming pass, if you are in Spain for 2 weeks, the 15 day pass will save you a some money. See FAQ's here: Basics
Should you find you are still enable to make calls, there may be a bar preventing roaming on your account, this can be removed through the Application. To get you account checked, the number for contacting Vodafone from overseas from any other phone is 0044 7836 191 191. We also have the Social Team here: Contact Us

If that is the case why did I get this message?
why is there no option to pay £2.50 for a daily roaming charge?
why am I connected to Vodafone ES but nothing works - no calls data texts or messages?
very confusing!

Quite understand what you mean @NathanT17 , you should be able to opt in through the Application, it should still work in Spain. I wonder if Vodafone still offer day passes or if you need to opt into the 8 or 15 day passes.

I got my plan in 2019.
here are the results of the checker:
so roaming should work, no?
furthermore it worked in 2022 in Lisbon absolutely fine.
customer service are adamant it shouldn’t.
in Spain without a working phone as soon as I leave Wi-Fi with no option to pay the £2.50 fee. Bit screwed!

If you got the plan in 2019 then EU roaming will be included at no extra cost, so no bundles to buy. Just ensure your bars are all lifted on your account and you should be good to go.
Roaming on Basics plans has been available for a few years now - surprised staff at Vodafone don’t actually know that! 😅

When Basics were first launched, the plans were for UK usage only and did not include roaming, it wasn't until a few years later roaming would be able to be added when a roaming pass was purchased.
I am wondering if @NathanT17 is one one of the earlier plans where it was not possible to roam.
If that is correct, Customer Services have given the correct information and the plan would need to be upgraded to allow a roaming pass to be purchased.

The Text to me suggests that Roaming in EU is included in your plan.
I get the same Text whenever I land in a Inclusive Roaming Country.
First thing to check, is as suggested in the Second Text, remove spend limit or increase it.
I know it is free, but I had similar issue and as soon as increased the Spend Limit it started working.
And while you are at it, I would suggest you check the Roaming Bar as well.
