My phone doesn't work abroad

I was in France recently and my phone wouldn't pick up a French network. Data roaming was switched on, I tried searching for specific networks as well as searching automatically, I even tried taking the SIM card out to clean it (and replacing it) just in case!

I'm over in France again next week and I'm wondering if there's anything else I can try?

Thanks.

First and obvious question, have you got roaming enabled in your contract?

As well as that, check your My Vodafone account to make sure there isn't a roaming usage bar.

@jmcnam - some great advice there from @SimonWilding and @hrym 🙂

It's also worth noting that not all our plans allow data roaming - our Vodafone Basic range is for UK usage only.

Thanks for the information everyone. I had thought roaming was included in my account without having to have it activated but I phoned Vodafone yesterday per the advice on the pdf Simon kindly provided. The recorded message told me roaming was enabled so I'm hoping it will work next time.

Thanks for coming back to us @jmcnam 👍

If you want us to double check it before you travel, please come and chat to my team on Facebook or Twitter.

The link shared for roaming is 10 years out of date.

I'd recommend contacting customer care (or contacting via social media) and getting someone to specifically confirm that roaming is set up correctly on your account.

Worth doing this now rather than seeing red next time you're in France and not seeing SFR on the screen 😀

Thanks Donnyguy. It turns out I'm on a basic plan so don't have roaming so I've switched to a different company.
