Should airtime and device be billed separately?

I recall and Ofcom article saying this was planned a while back.  My invoice just shows a cost of the plan which covers my tariff and my device.

The reason I ask is due to the 10%ish price increase happening.  Surely that's 10% of the airtime yet I'm getting it on the entire monthly invoice so it's quite a drastic increase!

Hi @BrassEyeBaby

If you are on an Evo contract, you will be billed separately for the device and airtime. If you scroll down to FAQ's here: Evo this will be explained.

If you the CPI price increase, this applies to the airtime part of the contract only.  Further information here: Annual Price Adjustments

Thanks AnnS, that's quite disappointing as I don't see how Vodafone can justify adding 10% to my device too.  I originally had to go to Vodafone for signal reasons but despite moving house I stayed out of loyalty.  Come renewal time it's going to be hard to justify staying after this.

Hi @BrassEyeBaby, as @AnnS has mentioned and as it says in the link they have provided:

  • If you have Vodafone EVO your total monthly payment is split into 2 parts – one payment for your device and one for your Airtime. For Vodafone EVO plans this increase will only be applied to your Airtime Plan. Your Phone or Watch Plan monthly payment are unaffected.

If you would like us to check your plan and make sure you are being billed correctly, please drop us a message on social media. Make sure to include a link back to this forum thread to save repeating yourself along with your mobile number.

I think what the OP is alluding to is that they got the device and plan prior to EVO, so they only have one bill but find it unfair that the whole bill is subject to the price increase, not just the airtime.

In response to the OP, that’s just the way it is I’m afraid. I’m in the same boat as you but it’s agreed in the contract. If you upgrade again with Vodafone direct, it’ll be on an EVO plan with separate billing for device and plan. Hope that helps.

For what it’s worth, if I do upgrade with Vodafone again (and it’s a BIG “if”), I’ll probably do it indirectly as I personally don’t like the idea of EVO and prefer just one bill for my phone (plus I don’t want a hard credit check and a loan showing on my credit file every 2 years).
