I had a Vodafone account which I cancelled, my partner paid the final bill but a few months after a debt collection agency started chasing me!!! They said I hadn’t paid, I thought there was a follow up bill. I paid but have a registered default. It actually turns out that on the payment my partner made he got 1 digit wrong on the reference, through checks this never got returned so we are in the position of having paid our bill at the right time albeit to some lucky persons account, another payment paid and a default to boot!!!
has anyone had any joy with getting Vodafone to remove the default & if in our position got the money returned? Thanks in advance

You could certainly have a word with the Vodafone Social Media Team's via Twitter DM or Facebook Messenger and they'll look into this. They also have a dedicated Credit File Specialist Team they can ask to look at the default.
Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries.
Link back to your thread here including your forum username so your not having to repeat yourself.
I'm sure they'll look at everything and advise you on what can be done.
However if they find the default warranted it would remain on your Credit File for 6 years.
It is best practice to leave a direct debit in place for a time after paying just incase.
Unfortunately some people decide to cancel their direct debit once they believe the final bill has been paid. Typically when the final bill has been paid the person receives a sorry your leaving letter and a £0 bill which confirms account closure.
I wish you all the best with this.
