Vodafone saying eligible for upgrade repeatedly and then declining it.

I took out an Unlimited sim for £30 per month in December with two additional lines for £10 for 100GB each.

In the App it sent me notifications that I could upgrade to a handset, I even received emails over the last couple of weeks.

I looked and seen that if I took a handset out I could move to 150GB for £10 per month for 6 months and then £20 there after, I could put up with more of my work wifi as it's improved.  I thought that would do, it's a good saving and I could make use of the S22 and pass my (bought outright off Amazon) x3 Neo to my daughter.  I liked the feel of the S22 and it's smaller stature, I accepted it's battery is only 3700mah.

Well the website jumped to immediately fail the credit check.  Spoke via chat and they said I would be eligible to try again in 90 days to which I said no and in fact I would look to move away at the end of this contract as I've never been so embarassed and frustrated.  To add insult the app is still telling me I'm eligible for a handset and to take additional lines.  Grrrrr.  As my credit score is good, no issues, I can only assume that they had done the maths like me and figured out I'd save £300 by changing tariffs and they decided "You're not having that!"

My 20 year old was nearly taking my advice to switch to Vodafone and decided to take a new contract with o2.

I am not persuing some kind of begging routine with Vodafone, they said no once I won't let them say no a second time.

Hi @Anonymous

The experience you have had trying to upgrade to an Evo contract certainly deserves an explanation from Vodafone, hopefully this will be picked up by the Social Team.

As far as the credit check is concerned, it's unlikely the check would have even been completed until the following working day.  The only thing I can think of is you were upgrading your main contract and paying less for the airtime part of the contract on a monthly basis and the airtime part of the contract needs to be equivalent or more.  As far as is known when you upgrade from SIM only to a handset contract, Vodafone would be writing off what remains of the SIM only.

I certainly wish you all the best and hope you find the reason for being declined an upgrade from SIM only to a full Evo contract.

Little & Last update on this thread.

Never bothered re-installing the vodafone app - I have zero spend so no need to watch bills other than the email - clearly I am credit worthy for £55 on sim only for two years but not when it's less than £55 but it includes a handset.

(Less profit eh? cause it's a cheaper tariff) (Nothing wrong with my Credit Score)

Swapped out the S22; awful battery, as in worse than expected, maybe faulty, to an iPhone 13.

(phone purchased from retailer beginning with Arg.......... )

Never used Apple before and I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like them.

Counting down the months to being able to leave VF for a better, rated for service, network.

Gemma,  the exact same situation happened to me. I have been a Vodafone customer for 4 years. My first deal was roughly £60 a month, my current deal is £37 a month sim only deal. I tried to select the upgrade for S22 and failed the credit check. Expedia and ClearScore both have my credit rating high. I’ve been a customer for 4 years and never missed a payment, and have 2 numbers currently under my name. Yet I failed the credit check for the upgrade package for £47 a month? Seriously? Disgraceful from Vodafone, il certainly never be a customer of there’s again after this. I need a new handset as I’ve had the same one for 4 years yet you won’t even allow me to have a credit check on a handset deal for 90 days now? Vodafone thinks I can’t afford an extra £10 a month?

I've been a Vodafone customer. For over 15 years. I'd never had a problem upgrading until last year.

Never missed a payment.

I went to upgrade my phone as usual. Was declined. Terrible on Vodafone's part as far as I'm concerned.

I upgraded with carphone warehouse 20 minutes later with no problem.

I won't bother dealing directly with Vodafone again.

Hi they have don’t the same to me told me to take a contract and will get an upgrade for free the following year. 12 months later after paying £72 a month they are now telling me they did not mean to sell me this. When I asked to terminate my contract for selling me a service they do they said we will give you £20 refund.

I had similar happen. My daughter had had her phone stolen from her bag and she needed a new phone. I was trying to upgrade 1 of my contracts so that i could get the new phone and she could have my old phone. I failed the credit check online, so i phoned them to see what could be done and was told it was due to the cost of the phone and my allowed credit limit with vodafone the new phone would take me just over my allowed limit. After speaking to the advisor, they managed to adjust my credit amount with them and were able to sort out the upgrade for me there and then.
