Hi, I have a sim only pay monthly plan and have seen a good Vodafone phone pay monthly plan with another company - what happens to my phone number if I go through mobile phone direct to get a phone on a pay monthly contract but it is still with Vodafone? Thank you.

Hey @Beth8484 I hope you're well 😊 If you take out a Vodafone contract from a third party you will have a contract with them on a brand new account and your existing one with us on your old account. In order to move your old number over to replace the new number, you would need to speak to the Cancellations team on 191 and ask for the existing number to be moved to Pay as You Go.
Once this is done, you can then fill in the Keep My Number form and this will move the now Pay as You Go number over to replace the new number. Your old account will then be closed.

Wow! OK. Thanks, that certainly gives me something to think about. Sounds like it would be quicker just to use the PAC system to completely change providers 😞

Moving to PAYG is certainly one way to go and the process Vodafone would advise but unless this has been simplified, it will take 30 days to complete @Beth8484
A quicker way is by porting out the number you wish to keep by using a PAC to any other network on PAYG and port back in on the third party contract, this will take no longer than 48 hours to complete and you will have the SIM only contract cancelled and the number on the new third party contract.
From the search facility of the forum there will be some examples on how this is completed.

I would say the doing the PAC strategy would be the simplest. Get a PAC code for your existing number. Temporarily move your number over to a Pay as you Go SIM and then get a new PAC for that and then you can use that to switch the number back into your (new) Vodafone deal.

If Vodafone is the best network for you, then doing the PAC shuffle takes a few days but is usually worth the effort if you are saving some money, you just need to be prepared for a couple of days where your number may not work for a few hours during the transfers.
