NUC not working and phone is possibly locked.

The short story is should I look into why the NUC isn't working or is the phone locked now?

I recently got a Sony Xperia 1 and the original owner requested a NUC/unlock code for me. I entered it and said it was unsuccessful so I assumed I had entered it wrong and done it again, then got someone else to try to no avail. I had a look online and seen mention of the number of attempts being limited and set about looking to see how many if any I had left.

There was never and still isn't any mention of attempts left on the unlock screen you get when you put in a non-vodafone sim but after dialing *#*#7465625#*#* to get to the sim unlock menu I can see this information I've attached in the screenshot.

I can still enter the NUC without any mention of attempts or it being locked but knowing now there are seemingly limited attempts, I thought I had better not.

Hopefully this link works to the screenshot for anyone that can't see the attachment

That suggests to me you have run out of attempts and now need to ask Vodafone to send the phone away to have it's counter reset so you can try again and also speak with Customer services or the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries  to have the Nuc checked.

Thanks for the reply.

I expected as much but held on to hope because I hadn't experienced any mention of attempts or locking while entering the NUC.

I'll ask about how to start the counter reset process and to have the NUC checked.

I've since been in touch via facebook messenger which has yet to see a reply, the live chat where at the end of some very conflicting advice I was told there nothing that could be done and I should call 191 which I did.

I called 191 and explained the situation and the person helping me said that I had to wait 30 days for the NUC I was given to work. I explained that it was the previous owner that got the NUC, that it didn't work and in the service menu it said it was "network locked: no attempts remaining". I was told again to wait 30 days, to not take the sim out for 30 days as this reset the 30 day period, that I was to ignore the "network locked no attempts remaining". I was also told that general brick and mortar phone shop could unlock it in 10 minutes for a fee.

So right now I'm more confused than anything else. I have a nasty suspicion that waiting 30 days will bear no fruit and whatever code I'm given after that time is up will not work and I'm no further forward.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@Anonymous If the previous owner didn't fully complete the unlocking process, you won't be able to request your own NUC until you've had 30 days of usage on a Vodafone Pay as you go SIM. If you haven't already started doing that, that's the direction that I'd go. Once you've done this, we can then request it directly.

Thanks for the reply, @Adam

So I shouldn't be concerned about the information in the screenshot saying "No attempts remaining"? I'm happy to wait the 30 days it takes, I'm just concerned that in 30 days the code won't work because of the "no attempts remaining" in the service menu.

Hey @Anonymous, are you currently using a Vodafone Pay as you Go SIM Card in the phone? 🙂
