Solution

Unlocking NOKIA 515

Anonymous
Not applicable

Please would you be kind enough to help me. I have been with Vodaphone for many years. I have recently replaced my phone and wish to keep the Nokia 515 to use with non Vodaphone sims, as and when necessary. Vodaphone supplied me with my NUC, however when inserting a non vodaphone sim, the message "ENTER ACCESS CONTROL CODE" appears. I tried the NUC, beleiving it at that time to be the same, but it did not work. The response was Code Error. My local Vodaphone shop opined that the Access Control Code was indeed simply another term for a NUC. and spoke to the unlocking team for me. They have today sent me the same unlock code as originally sent and a second one, to try if the original fails.

I now believe as a reult of a web serach that the Access Control Code is something different from the NUC. I have never set any code on the Nokia, except a keypad code. That not surprisingly is not accepted as the Access Control Code.

I would be very obliged if you could help me. I have of course the IMEI code and both NUC codes sent to me by email from the unlocking team.

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous

The following links may help.

How-do-I-use-my-nuc.

Unlocking/Nokia-6300-Unlock.

If you get stuck the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries.

Don't try the Nuc too many times or you may hardlock the phone resulting in it having to send it away to be reset.

Thank you for replying

I have tried that having found it on the web

It does not work

I do not have any form of pin code or any other code I cancelled the keypad code sometime ago

When I inserted a GiffGaff sim (not activated) in my wife`s phone, as she has also changed hers and use the NUC sent by Vodaphone against her IMEI number it unlocked immediately.

It never asked for access control code.

When I inserted the same unactivated GiffGaff sim, which I bought from the local supermarket, in my phone it displays a message - Enter access control code - with the displayed box to enter it. As I said I beleived it to be the NUC but both of them sent from Vodaphone -FAIL, Code error.

The web has numerous reports of this acess control code requirement on Nokia phones, but I have not found what it is or who supplies it.

I was hoping that someone on the forum may kindly reply with an authroative answer as to where to obtain this access control code.

However as I said thank you indeed for trying help.

Hi @Anonymous

Try entering this code #pw+NUC+1# followed by the unlock code.   Hope it does the trick.

Thank you for replying but your suggestion is the same as was offered by Band of Brothers, on the link he provided in his post

"You need to enter the code given below on the main front screen of the phone, the same way you would do if you were going to make a phone call on the phone. When you enter Key #pw+NUC+1# when you enter the last # it will then display the message "sim restriction off"

It does not work.

Do you know please what is the meaning of Access Control Code - as my wife`s phone, albeit a Samsung, never asked for that and her NUC worked immediately.

Vodaphone shop staff told me the Access Control Code was another word for the NUCm but a web search tends to indicate otherwise.

Hi @Anonymous

I didn't notice that.

It would also be worth mentioning that it won't make any difference if the alternative SIM card has not been activated or if you are abroad, the unlock process is started when the alternative SIM is placed in the phone, the phone software then completes the unlocking process., it's not something that is network dependent.

Thank you to both of you for replying again

However is there a difference of opinion (the GiffGaff sim is NOT activated. However it worked on my wifes Samsung) as I read it one of you oines it does not make any difference if it is NOT activated and the other opines that it should be an activated sim

Is this something peculiar to Nokia phones it is the 515.

Do either of you know please what is the meaning of

Enter ACCESS CONTROL CODE

Thank you

You're very welcome for my reply and the tutorial in the link I placed @Anonymous and I'm sorry this still isn't resolved.

Basically unlocking should happen as long as a person is in the UK and the alternative network sim card i.e your Giffgaff sim is activated.

I would suggest to liaise with customer service on 191 , Live Chat or the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries.

I'm aware some have decided to use a Local Highstreet Store that advertises they unlock phones and pay the fee due to difficulties unlocking with Vodafone.
