Has google RCS messaging stopped working for vodafone? "trying to verify your phone number" :-(

For some reason RCS messaging has just stopped working on my phone (Mate 20x), I've tried everything google has suggested online, resetting my phone, taking my sim card out/in, uninstalling carrier services, uninstalling google messages app, clearing data/cache.

In the messaging app is just says "Trying to verify your phone number", this is very frustrating.

I've had this before. Sometimes turning it off for a few days fixes it.

That said, no one I know uses it anyway, it's all whatsapp and messenger and stuff nowadays.
