Setting up 4g calling ready for next year.

Hi

i have received a text saying 3g calling will end next year. I entered my IEMI number into the check box & it says that my Sony Xperia X Compact is compatible with 4g calling so i contacted a Vodafone worker via Facebook messenger & he sent me a few texts & to text CALLING to 97888. I did this & it said WiFi calling is added but nothing about 4g calling..

How can i make sure that my phone has 4g calling ? or is the WiFi calling & 4g calling the same?

Regards

Your phone will work, but you'll need a 2G signal.  This will have the same coverage it does now, so there may be a very small number of areas where there's 4G but no 2G (as now), the only difference being if there was previously 3G but no 2G (possibly only a theoretical possibility).

As most Sony devices already work, it's possible that getting Tech Support to send the settings for another model will give you VoIP functionality.

Hi and thanks @hrym I thought there must be a way.. Sending settings from another device sounds interesting, I'll have to visit a local store as I'm unsure what to do.

These are my signal options, I guess 2g isn't there..

Because Sony have a range of models, it may be a question of working out compatibility if the settings vary across the range. Brands that use more or less pure Android should be easier.

I can't see your image at the moment, but I'm pretty sure you'll pick up 2G if available, and that it's likely to be.

In the image if I click 2g then that will apply to my Internet data too won't it whereas I want 4g for Internet but 2g for calls not 2g Internet.

@hrym hi, so could my phone calls & texts be 2g & internet use 4g?

The image says 4g preferred & there's 2 other options however i'd probably need to switch between them when i need to make a call or send a text but if someone is contacting me that would be a problem?

4G calling (VoIP) should turn on automatically when the mobile signal is weak or not present. The process should be seamless.

when sim not present or loss of signal it asks me to turn Wifi calling which my phone isn't provisioned for when accessing the secret menu. 4g is provisioned though

guess i'll have to go to store & sort it out which is a nightmare in itself.. Big city wi no store when used to be 2. Was popular with the elderly just wanting a basic phone, now they gotta go outa town to the big shopping center whereas small towns local have a store.

I just hope the tech guy is there when u make the long journey. Yer can't even contact the store.. Why is this please?

@hrym can you now see the image & the question about 2g calling & 4g internet at the same time.
