Setting up 4g calling ready for next year.

Hi

i have received a text saying 3g calling will end next year. I entered my IEMI number into the check box & it says that my Sony Xperia X Compact is compatible with 4g calling so i contacted a Vodafone worker via Facebook messenger & he sent me a few texts & to text CALLING to 97888. I did this & it said WiFi calling is added but nothing about 4g calling..

How can i make sure that my phone has 4g calling ? or is the WiFi calling & 4g calling the same?

Regards

@hrym No I want 4g Internet but 2g calls too so from what you say I can have both 4g Internet and 2g calls together.

I didn't say older people don't want to know technology but maybe the majority of the basic button phones aren't used by younger people. Maybe I'm wrong.

Just wish Vodafone gave you that option instead of 'you must upgrade'.

So my phone will definitely start using 2g for calls and texts and 4g for Internet once 3g is turned off?

Just I can't find any evidence of this online.

Thanks

HI @gazmix8! Once 3G is turned off, you'll be able to use 2G for your calls and texts and 4G for your data. For more information on this, please click here

Hi @Beth

Many thanks, so which of the 3 setting options in the 'Preferred Network Type settings should i use please?

There is :- 4g (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM

                 WCDMA only

                 WCDMA(preferred)/GSM

or will the phone choose what is available at the time.. Currently it goes to H when i make a call.

@gazmix8 I would recommend the 4G (Preferred)/WCDMA/GSM as in this context I believe GSM is your 2G and WCDMA is your 3G. Your phone should automatically convert over to the correct one if you have this set up as Automatic (which I know can be done in most smart phones but not all) 🙂

@Beth Hi & thanks

My phone is a Sony Xperia X Compact. I don't know if this is set up or if it's automatic. Would Vodafone need to send me the settings to set it up like when i updated to a new sim & one of the agents i spoke to provisioned 4g calling.  I'd like to know how it's done as i've no idea.

@gazmix8 If you select the preferred network of 4G (Preferred)/WCDMA/GSM now, you'll be good to go as this will already be active when 3G is eventually turned off 🙂

@Beth many thanks i hope so..

it's annoying when i get mails from Vodafone saying i 'need' to upgrade as my phone doesn't have 4g calling yet not giving me the option to use GSM for calls & texts..

I like the phone i have & have another spare as i need a built in app that many phones, even high end no longer include,  which is daft.. size too.

Thanks

Hi

Is there any way of making a call & sending a text now with the gsm (2g) that i have on the phone to see if it works?

In preferred network types it says i have gsm & my phone is set for 4g preferred /WCDMA /GSM  but the phone currently goes to 3g when calling or texting i just wondered if there was a way of trying out 2g calling?

Many thanks

@gazmix8 - I can see from your previous posts that you’re a little concerned about what will happen when 3G is turned off. I’d recommend the same as @Beth and @hrym  mentioned and to leave your phone set to ‘Automatic’. This way it will always pick up the strongest signal available in your area.
