I have had my Smart Phone 7 for just a year, and just lately I have had to charge it a lot more, some times twice a day, I do not use it that much, hardly make any calls on it,
Just wondered how long the battery may last, I have it on 'mobile data' but always have had, thanks for any help.

Hopefully that's you sorted.
I have auto updates off too.
It's good that the lad has been able to help, looking at the phone is a lot easier to diagnose any problems.

Strowger, I do charge it overnight, and it has always lastest the day, but this last couple of weeks it has not, by late afternoon it is needing charge again,
Also am using a lot of Data, which I never did before.

It sounds as if something has updated recently and is running in the background. Worth checking Facebook and Twitter to check the auto play videos hasn't been activated, this has happened to me in a couple of occasions. It's going to be difficult for anyone here to establish what's causing your problem without being able to see the phone.

Morning 63john, I do use facebook and that might seem logic, how do I check? just by scrolling down FB and see if anything is moving?
if you all live nearer you could all look at my phone, !!!!

That should tell you but go into settings then app settings and there is a tab for playing videos, mine is set to never auto play.

Hi @widgetwilk39 open your facebook app. touch the menu button, (3 horizontal lines top right) , scroll down to App settings, then there is a tab in there for auto play.

Thanks 63john, have done that, now got 'Never Auto play'
but I was so fustrated with the phone, I got a move on this morning and made it to the shop in town, smashing lad in there very helpful, what he has done is taken off automatic updates, he reckons that takes a lot of battery life, he also removed a lot I had on there, never use, the extra data usage he thinks is from up-dates but I am still ok this month,
he says battery's normally out-live the phone,
All I can say now is a big big thank you to you all that have adviced and helpt me, you are a wonderful lot with a world of information, many many thanks and carry on your good work, XXXXX

New versions of apps are released from time to time to add features or fix issues. These are called "updates". You've probably seen them in Google Play. If not, go in now and check if there are any. You can also go into Play settings and set them to happen automatically (over wifi only is best).

You haven't by any chance been allowing the battery to go flat, have you? That will considerably shorten its life and can, in certain circumstances, even lead to the device becoming unusable. Lithium-based batteries should have a charge-cycle life of 1000-2000 times from empty to full, more pro-rata if they're only topped up. There's no need to exercise them and regular topping up is fine. Suggestions vary, but the current thinking seems to be that maintaining a charge between 30 & 90% is best for overall life. Most of us do charge to 100%, but there's a suggestion that that does in fact degrade the electrodes (though maybe only slowly).
I have an ancient tablet that recently behaved as though the battery had reached the end of its life. I didn't get around to replacing it and it seems to have recovered. Occasionally, a app update causes problems, this is then recognised and a further update fixes them. You could also look at the frequency of background syncing/refreshing of any apps that allow you to select that - news services commonly do, for instance.
