I want to use wild cards for allowable sites in my broadband settings.

 

Can I do this and if so how?

What are you actually trying to achieve, and where have you put this *vodafone* ?

I want to set safe controls then allow any site that, for example, contains the word "vodafone", rather than having to put www.vodafone.co.uk and www.vodafone.com etc.

You can access the content control settings via your My Vodafone account (the same one you would use to get your bills). Customer services can also add/remove them for you.
