Can No Longer View Sky Player Live Tv

gazfc
4: Newbie
been trying to use sky's online player to watch live tv through my inbuilt mobile internet conection, all was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago when i started to get the same error which according to sky is because

A number of our regular Sky Player users have encountered problems trying to access Live TV, particularly the Ashes from their work computers. Instead of being able to watch the Ashes they get an error.

This error can be generated if your work PC is passing through a proxy server.

As a result of this Sky are unable to do anything directly that will allow you to view the content from your work PC. Your IT guys however may be able to allow your access through the proxy server.
is there any other reason for this or has there been any changes to the network to make this happen or a way round it, as this was the main reason for getting mobile internet.

spoke to sky to no avail, any help would be apreciated

Hi gruff,

I've got a couple of questions which might help to narrow down the cause. :)

Are you using a modem to connect to the internet or via your handset? If you are using a Mobile Broadband Modem, can you try connecting to Sky Player directly from the start menu and connect to, rather than using the Vodafone Mobile Connect.

Is there any error message that you're getting when you attempt to connect to Sky Player?

We have had some recent issue where updated on our network meant that we were unable to access certain sites through a mobile braodband modem, so it could be the same issue with this too.

If you can let us know any error messages, we'll get back to you with some more information. :D

Cheers, Helen

Hi Gruff

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems here. I've not heard of any problems with programs such as this.

Does this happen all of the time (Every time you connect) ?

If it only happens intermittently a quick disconnect and reconnect will help resolve this for you (By assigning you a different IP address) If this doesn't work for you we may need to investigate this further as an issue outlined by Helen above

Thanks

Wayne

Hi gruff,

Many thanks for getting back to us on this one. As it seems that our suggestions have been exhausted I have sent an email to your registered address so we can get the ball rolling with this investigation to see where the problem is arising.

In the meantime I have sent an email over to our device management team to see whether they are aware of any confliction between your Samsung NC10 and Sky online player.

I am sure one way or another we will get to the bottom of this for you, :)

Kind regards

Andrew

Hi,
I am also having the same problem and receiving the same error message (mf2). I found this thread searching on google trying to find a solution to the problem.

Having read the previous posts I just though I'd mention that im using a different modem to the samsung, im using the huawei version. So the problem is'nt exclusive to the samsung modem.

Regards
Stuart

Hi all,

This would appear to be a licensing issue, similar to the problems we've enounctered before with the BBC iPlayer.

Since our Mobile Broadband devices can be used anywhere in the world, and will still appear to be using a UK IP address, Sky and iPlayer block your ability to view certain content that is not licensed to be viewed outside of the UK. The reason they do this, is because they are unable to determine whether a user on Mobile Broadband is actually still in the UK or not, so they have to block the entire customer base.

This is an unfortunate situation, but is due to a limitation with Mobile Network Technology. We are working with providers like Sky and the BBC on a solution, but do not yet have a workaround.

I've just purchased a mobile broadband dongle for the sole purpose of watching skysports on the internet.
I too am getting the same two error messages MF1 and MF2!
Has there been any new advances to wheteher we can or will be able to in the near future watch t.v through the sky player?

Hi disappointed1,

A warm welcome to the wonderful eForum! :D

There haven’t been any advances with this yet and I can’t see there being an immediate change at present.

I know how frustrating this is as I’m unable to catch up on missed TV programs on sites such as the BBC iPlayer with my mobile broadband device.

As Jon has said, we are working with these providers to resolve this, however there isn’t any more we can add to this at present I’m afraid.

All the best,

Jenny
