DG8 - 2G service now unavailable

DG8 - Newton Stewart

1) This is happening at home and has happened over the past couple of months.  The service indoors was fine (5 bars) for 2G but has deteriorated to almost nil.

2) Postcode on my profile

3) Don't have another phone to try card in.

4) There is either "x" or only one bar reception - and if I move the phone, eg pick it up, it loses the single bar.  Sometimes the phone will regain a signal, other times it needs to be re-booted.

5) I only have 2g in this location

6) There have recently been new phone masts in my locality, also new power distribution cables this refers: https://www.spenergynetworks.co.uk/pages/dumfries_galloway_strategic_reinforcement.aspx

7) Sadly this appears to be a permanent situation now, I hadn't imagined that it would get worse!  This has been consistent for the past 3 months.

Please note:  Although I have a landline with broadband, my broadband is not sufficient to support SureSignal (or indeed very much else, either) and BT are only managing an intermittent service with my landline.  Because I live in a remote farming community a reliable phone is critical.

@polarchange – I’ve checked the coverage in your area and can see that while you should get 2G coverage, this is a little patchy. There’s no 3G or 4G available in this location.

Your local site (5415) looks to be performing fine.

This looks to be due to general coverage and not a fault with the network. A Sure Signal would help, however this would require a good internet connection.

I recommend you contact your internet service provider (ISP) to see if there’s anything they can do to improve the broadband speeds you receive.

Many thanks for your reply.

The reception has dropped to nothing over the last 3 months.  It was fine before then.  Is it due to any other factors - which I have mentioned - that Vodafone were previously unaware of?

My ISP (AAISP) fights an ongoing battle with BT to maintain my service and I am confident that my download speeds are are fast as they can possibly be.  I am on an Exchange Only line which crosses fields ... I don't have any other options.   There isn't any chance of me using SureSignal to boost reception, I'm not sure I would even have the bandwidth for it.  What about a Sure Signal box that utilises less than 1 Mb?

Instead of referring me to my ISP I would be pleased if you can find out what you can do to reverse the current situation?  I am, after all, only asking for 2G!  I got an acceptable 2G signal for years, it is only over the last 3 months that the signal has fallen off.  Why is that?

I note that EE put in a planning application for a mast in October 2016 at Corwar Outon but this application was withdrawn in January this year, location 5415 as you mentioned - but I am unaware that Vodafone and EE now share masts.  In any event, it is quite a distance away over the hills.  Is this a mast you share with EE?

@polarchange - If it’s changed a lot over the past three months, we can look into this further.

It may still be due to the general coverage, but we can delve a little deeper and check what’s going on in the area.

I’ve sent you a private message with instructions on how to get in touch.
