DL3 Darlington - constant poor signal

DaveA
4: Newbie

1) Does the issue happen in just one location? If so, how far do you have to travel to regain service? Yes - 600m to better signal

2) What is the full postcode (e.g. ST1 1AA) of where the issue occurs? DL3 8NG

3) Does the issue occur if you try your SIM card in a different phone? Had a number of phones over the years; signal always been poor

4) What errors are seen or heard when the issue occurs? Calls drop or can't hear both ends of conversation

5) Does this happen on 2G, 3G, 4G or all? All

6) When did you first notice this issue? 2000

7) Is the issue permanent or intermittent? If intermittent, are there certain times of the day when it occurs? Permanent

Having issues with VSS 3. Would prefer just to have a good signal and not to rely on unreliable connection with VSS

I've waited 20 years as a Vodafone customer for a strong signal in this part of town, so must be close to top of the list for improvemenst by now 😉

Having seen the news today which reports foreign visitors being able to connect to the strongest signal, regardless of provider, makes me angry. We deserve better...

Roamers for other countries can only roam on UK networks their home network has partnered with.

For example, if someone visits the UK and is on a foreign network SIM which only permits roaming on Vodafone in the UK, then they will get the same coverage as you.

That's not the point. If UK providers were to share their infrastructure then, chances are, I'd have acccess to a stronger signal at this location.

I've been suffering poor quality network coverage for a number of years (20 years in fact) in my home and within a 200m radius of home. See postcode in my profile.

I can sometimes get 1 bar signal 3G or 4G, but mostly see E (1 or 2 bars)

The effect is dropped calls and/or scratchy/broken phone calls.

There are 2 iPhones (a 6 and a 5c) both using iOS 10 on the account and both behaving exactly the same.

I've successfully used a VSS for the last 10 years, but since 4G became available, and if I walked into the house with one bar of 4G showing, the VSS would suffer conflict and disable incoming and outgoing calls. This evening I've agreed with Social Media Comms to return the VSS as it's making things worse.

This area is in a slight dip which must be shielding us from the nearest mast. The area is heavily populated and many others will also be affected.

Hopefully Vodafone will see fit to examine the issue here and improve transmission strength.

Thanks

 Dave

Hi,

Totally appreciate the issues caused by intermittent signsl or issues with not spots or fringe coverage.

One tip is to turn off 4G in the phones settings so it connects with the 3G the SS pushes out.

Another option for people on an eligible tariffs and phones is Vodafone Calling Over Wifi. Unfortunately your models of iPhones are not in Vodafones compatible lists.

The Vodafone Network Checker can give planned work for the next 3 months.

Vodafone Network Checker.

Thanks, but neither option is viable.  As you have already seen in my previous post, the VSS is being returned and my iPhones are not compatible with wifi calling.

Then hopefully signal will improve in your area asap.
