Hello,
I recently applied for a mortgage and to my horror I was not accepted because Vodafone had put a default against my name. This relates to an apparent unpaid bill when I left the company back in 2015. This bill amounted to 73 pound which I paid off as soon as a letter from a debt collection agency came through the door. I did not receive an email, a phone call, or a letter in the post from vodafone for 2 years chasing payment. If I had I would have paid this straight away. So to come out of the woodwork 2 years later and wreck my chances of owning a house that I really wanted, I am deeply upset. Is there anyone that can help me at least try to get this default wiped from my credit score or at least marked as cleared up please.
Kind regards
Jamie Curzon

When you left Vodafone you should have received a final bill stating you owed zero? If you're able to produce this then there may be grounds to remove the default, however, if this isn't the case then the default has probably been correctly placed and as such you'll be unable to remove it.
Since you've now paid the outstanding amount the account should show as settled on your credit file, though you'd have to speak with your mortgage company to see if they would accept this.
