Do Vodafone block Non HTTP traffic on port 80

Hi,

We have started having problems connecting to the corporate Afria server over Vodafone.

We are unable to connect to Afaria over Vodafone mobile network. . We are using Motorola MC75 devices. APN settings are correct and the devices can connect to the internet ok.If we setup VPN on the device and VPN into the company network the device will connnect to Afaria ok. The devices can connect to Afaira over public WIFI ok.

I have spoken with SAP and they say that Afria uses the HTTP protocol but it is not native HTTP traffic.  They have suggested as we are using port 80 to send non HTTP traffic it may be getting blocked by Vodafone.  Can anybody confirm if this is correct?

Althought I don't know the answer to this for sure, I doubt the traffic is blocked.

You know the port is open, as web browsing works. I guess it's possible that Vodafone do some kind of ALG or packet inspection, but I think it more likely that the problem is related to the VPN configuration side of things.

Can you see the incoming connection hitting the Afria server? If the answer is yes, then it's unilkely that traffic is being blocked. When using VPNs on Vodafone you usually need NAT and PAT enabled on both the VPN client and firewall/concentrator, maybe set your keep alives to 20 seconds if you get VPN drop outs, maybe set your MTU size to 1400.

Are the motorola devices using the "internet" APN? Are you doing any IP address filtering?

I appreciate that doesn't give you the yes/no answer you were, perhaps, looking for, but it might give you a direction of enquiry.

Good luck

Also, another question!

You said at the beginning of your post that you've "started" having problems. Has this solution worked in the past when using the Vodafone UK network?
