Downloading Itunes Software

Sue Smith
Not applicable
I have Huawei E172 mobile broadband dongle. I use Windows Vista. My computer and dongle are both 18 months old.

For Christmas I was given an Ipod Shuffle. Ever since Christmas I have been trying to downlowd the Itunes software. I have tried at least 8 times but each time I get disconnected.

Do you have any ideas about how I can get the software downloaded so that I can use my new Ipod?

Hi Sue,

Glad to hear you've got an iPod :) I have to admit that is a strange problem you're getting and I can't see any reason why your mobile broadband will be disconnecting while downloading iTunes. Which browser are you using? It might be worth trying a different Internet browser such as Firefox or Safari.

You can try searching online to see whether you can download the program from an alternative website rather than Apple's servers. A number of people host copies of the software but make sure you scan them for viruses before you go ahead and install it just to be safe.

Alternatively you can try a download manager program as these are particularly useful in case your connection is lost. You can simply pick up the download where you left off without having to start all over again. I'm open to suggestions from other eForum members if they can recommend a free program as it's been a few years since I used these.

Let me know how you get on :)

Thanks,

Hi Adam
I use Internet Explorer 7 - I don't know anything about other browsers.

Hey Sue Smith,

I think Adam has hit the nail on the head with this one, we really need you to attempt this on another Web Browser.

I would recommend downloading Firefox and attempting the download again.

Please let me know how you get on with this, if you need anything else please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Matt

I've just tried to download Firefox and the same thing happened - I got disconnected within 10 seconds.

I still haven't managed to download Itunes. I get to 3% then Vodaphone disconnects. I finally managed to download Firefox after 3 attempts but the same thing happens when I try to download Itunes with that.

I've always had a problem with Vodaphone disconnecting but on other occasions what I can't do one day I can usually manage to do the next but I've now had the Ipod well over a week and have been unable to use it.

My contract with Vodaphone expires in April. I certainly won't be renewing it as it's useless.

Hi Sue,

The problems you’re encountering will be due to the sheer size of the download. It’s just too much for the network to handle in one go which is why it’s disconnecting after a few percent.

I recommend you do this using a wifi connection (or using an Ethernet cable) or alternatively using a download manager as suggested by Adam.

All the best,

Jenny
