HTC 10 on Vodafone

So, exciting news about the HTC 10 yesterday.
The leaks left me doubting if the device was good enough, but initial reviews suggest it might have got it right.

In the meantime TechRadar suggests VF are sitting on the fence about whether to stock it.

I'm sure a helpful VF member of staff will point us to the pointless "Coming Soon" page. Thanks for that.

Meantime here in the real world who would like VF to stock the HTC 10?
Is it incredible or even possible that VF are considering to NOT run with it?

@bizarre_adz thanks for the info on the Piktures and Kika, I've downloaded them to my old phone to try out they look pretty cool.  I phoned HTC about the missing swype and they are logging it as a support issue so hopefully they'll fix it.

Have any other HTC 10 Owners noticed that whereas you used to have to enter a pin number to decrypt the phone when it first started up now it doesn't ask.  There was a system update a day or so ago, I don't know if they changed it.  Google reveals an HTC FAQ topic about decrypting that is no longer present ... wonder why they changed it?

@IWonder When starting up, mine has a message saying: "Pattern required after restarting". I've got the pattern lock and finger print lock engaged but it won't unlock for the first time via fingerprint after reboot.

I'm happy that it requires some sort of secured unlock method after reboot, that way someone trying to get into my phone can't simply reboot to gain access. Not sure if that's the same with the pin code, but defnitely is with the pattern lock.

Also, glad you liked the apps. Piktures is one of the nicest gallery apps I've found and the calendar view (shows photos in a calendar format) is a really good looking feature. I'm also using "clipboard actions" as I didn't find the copy/paste facility as easy on the HTC as I did on my XperiaZ3. When you copy something it gives a message in the notifcation bar giving you varous options (share, search, on-map, translate, speak, QR code etc plus a definition label on single words to tell you the meaning of said word). Very useful little app....... HA HA!! As I was writing this I was playing about with the copy/paste feature on the HTC. Looks like you have to press on the teardrop of the cursor to access the paste / select all options. Good to know!!

@bizarre_adz  Mine comes up with a thing same as yours that says about after a restart I need to enter the code, no problem with that, I am all about it being secure as possible :smileyhappy:.  When I first got it though it used to ask for the code and it would then decrypt the phone, if you entered the code 30 (yes 30) incorrect times it would wipe your phone.  I wonder where that went to? Maybe they had problems with it?

Yes, I now have both apps you recommended on my HTC 10.  Keyboard is cool, I don't care about all the themes as I think they are a bit rubbish and would make seeing the keyboard difficult, but the features (copy and paste included) are good and it's great to have swype back as I use it a lot.   I will have to try "Clipboard Actions" as the copy and paste is never perfect but I quite liked the idea of stored entries in the keyboard app for re-pasting past ones

Piktures is way better than Google Photos Interface is nicer IMHO, I quite like the secure photo folder too just in case.  I am not a lover of cloud storage for photos and docs etc although I am sure I would think differently if my phone ever crashed or got wiped :smileywink:.  Loving the HTC 10 though, still loads to play with but the photos are pretty awesome too.

@IWonder Glad the entire thing is working out for you. Give the themes a chance on the keyboard. If you start with the default and customise it, you can pick whatever colours or fonts you like. I've used a plain black with white letters and a frame around each key. It's a basic black and white affair, but with the font size slightly higher it's perfect to use in the dark at night or in the bright daylight outdoors.

Piktures has some funky features which worked for me in the past and I've stuck with it for a few years. If you're after any other recommendations then I'd suggest Cal as a calendar app (pretty pictures, multiple account management and a very slick interface including a functional widget).

Otherwise im loving the HTC. Today's battery update: currently 13hr 57 on battery. 1hr 48 mins screen on and 46% battery remaining. Oddly Instagram seems to be about 6% of my battery drain but I've got the background refresh switched off. Going to have to look into that.

Regarding keyboards, I have been using SwiftKey for the last few years and I find it to be the best keyboard. Swiping is a breeze and it;s perfect for people who use multiple languages as it is very clever and can tell which language is in use and makes perfect predictions.

Battery life, my stats today: 13:30 on battery with 2:15 screen on time and 48% battery remaining at 21:28 (a busy day in the office:) I feel like it's getting batter but I cannot imagine I would squeeze 4hrs of screen on time. I guess reducing the brightness to approx 40% helped a lot. I started off at approx 70%. Facebook and Google services draining 10% each, screen 29%

For picture gallery I use QuickPic which looks similar to the HTC gallery desing and functionality wise.

For user interface Nova Launcher Prime from day one, the Sense might be the best skin out there but for me it doesn't beat Nova

@burso83 I used to use QuickPic too. Cant remember why i stopped and went to Piktures, but now i wouldn't use anything else. Nova Prime since day 1 here too. Like the adaptability over the stock launcher and google now. Also tried multiple keyboards in my search for something that worked the way i wanted. Swype wasn't available on one of my phones in the past (again, cant remember why) but that's when i moved onto Swiftkey (now discontinued) and finally onto Kika. Only gripe i have at the moment is that on the HTC the abbreviate words (I'm, I'll etc) are not adding the apostrophe automatically. Need to figure out if it's a setting issue.

I reckon i could get 5 hours on screen time, but it would mean limiting background apps, no auto sync, no smart watch, no auto brightness and limited screen brightness. Question is... Would in really wan that when i have a charger in work, one by my side of the sofa and one next to the bed? Ha!!!

New Nillkin window cover arrived today. Fits amazing and activates the Ice View facility on the phone. Cost under £6 and took 8 days to arrive. Very impressed so far.

Guys, heres a query for you..... On the top edge of the phone, just above the front facing camera, is a small rectangle that looks like some sort of sensor. Any ideas what this does? It's not impacting the brightness of the phone when covered, so i don't think its the daylight sensor. It's not a "hole" so i don't think it's a mic and there's no IR port on this phone either. It's definitely not a fault as I've found it on photos of other phones online. At a loss.....
