@specland1 You are correct in that looking at it long term buying a device outright is always the best way.
With so many zero interest credit card deals around these day it is easy to use one of those card and spread the cost without any interest charges over 18-24 month depending on the card.

@kids, the only advantage I could see is a bloatware free handset and No contract. Take for instance/compare CPW deal with VF vs. HTC direct handset with VF sim only plan, same plan offers. CPW £49 (after £50 cashback for upgrade clients) and plan with unltd. mins/texts and 2GB data is 34/month = £865 in 2 yrs. HTC deal for £512 (with 10% discount for pre orders) + VF Sim only plan with unltd. mins/texts and 2GB data for £17/month = £920. Even more expensive, you could argue a non VF branded handset will have a higher resale value after 2 years and you are not contract tied for the 2 years. For me personally I did not have any massive issues with VF in the past, therefore I wouldn't mind the 2yr contract. I think it's more down to the individual preference of paying a higher premium without the ties or spreading the cost and having to stay with VF for the next 2 years.

@specland1 what makes you think the VF plans with HTC 10 will be equally expensive as with EE (if they end up offering the handset)? I was hoping for plan pricing somewhere between the LG G5 and Galaxy S7 considering the price of the handset and the not so great reputation of HTC in the last couple of years. I'll be disappointed if this happens.

@specland1 I suggest you also have a look at Tesco mobile (O2 coverage and comparing to VF excellent customer service) plans here: http://www.coolsmartphone.com/2016/04/16/htc-10-coming-to-tesco-mobile/ not confirmed on their website yet, but 2GB for £39 without any upfront isn't bad either. I have checked with Tesco Mobile chat rep and the phone will come bloatfree, only branding is Tesco Mobile launch animation on start up (I could live with) no pushy tesco apps pre installed out of the box.

A very interesting article, almost makes me think it explains why are we being told "Vodafone will most certainly stock HTC 10" despite the "official" NO in the media. Is it keeping us happy, I guess so...

@bizzare_ads could you please be more specific about the deal you were offered? I have my eyes on the 2GB VF plan for £34/month however as I'm an existing customer I would have to go through the upgrade route which is £99 upfront, even with the cashback it's still £50. I went instore (CPW) today and have asked the sales assistant if he thought I could get a better deal than on the website. He said I could, but not as much as matching tne new contract offer (£50 upfront), as apparently VF is focused on getting new custmoers rather then retaining the existing ones. This was the message I was getting when comparing the new deal vs upgrade VF plans through CPW. I think if CPW can upgrade me to the 2GB VF plan with only a £50 upfront fee retunred through the cashback I will not have much to think about. thanks

I bit the bullet and went with CPW. Upgraded on VF , unliited minutes / texts and 2gb data £40 per month. Got £50 cash back and £65 for my M8. My 10 arrives on the 18th...... cant wait !
