HTC 10 on Vodafone

So, exciting news about the HTC 10 yesterday.
The leaks left me doubting if the device was good enough, but initial reviews suggest it might have got it right.

In the meantime TechRadar suggests VF are sitting on the fence about whether to stock it.

I'm sure a helpful VF member of staff will point us to the pointless "Coming Soon" page. Thanks for that.

Meantime here in the real world who would like VF to stock the HTC 10?
Is it incredible or even possible that VF are considering to NOT run with it?

I'm sure the sensor above the speaker grille is an ambient sensor, perhaps it has other functions too. I have tested this on my phone by covering it when display is set to auto brightness and the screen actually dimmed.

Above the speaker grille yes, but im talking about the small rectangle above the front camera. HTC_UK thought it was a proximity sensor until i sent them a photo and then they said they weren't sure what it was themselves! One person suggested an antenna of some sorts, but so far no one is certain what it is. If you look on the angled edge about 4-5mm above the front camera circle you can see a small (1x1.5mm) rectangle actually on the corner of the frame of the phone. It doesn't adjust screen brightness when covered, nor impact signal, nor dim screens during cals. So I've ruled out light and proximity sensor leaving just the antenna option??

@bizarre_adz I have no idea what it is unless it's just some sort of marker or something for the camera.  I wonder if it has a function at all, I doubt it, but don't know.  It seems very coincidental that it is aligned dead centre of the front camera.  I have a rugged armor case on which covers it and I have found no detrimental effects from that.  Perhaps it is just a red herring.

@bizarre_adzI see what you mean now. Same as iWonder I have the rugged armor and it does not affect anything. I'm inclined to think it is the same strip as the antenna lines are made of, only much smaller and only on the angled bit as at the top is the plastic lid. I cannot imagine it has any functionality. I assume when the phone was designed and completed, someone forgot to delete it off the schematics :Smiling:

So finally got fed up of waiting and decided to get me PAC codes.... Hmm that loosened up Vodafone and after a hour of them trying to persuade me to have a stocked phone got 2 sim only deals 8GB red value bundles with a 50% discount. Given one phone will be in Spain for four weeks soon the roaming included is a big bonus. Putting the phones on a 0% card deal means I'm now paying just under £40 a month which I'm happy with, A bit of a phaf but worth it. Vodafone you kept me but only just.....

If you don't mind me asking, what did it work per month for one sim card? Because that may be the only way they'll keep me or I'm off to EE!

@jacippet just a quick question on the roaming with the Red Value bundles. Did you mean you've got the Euro Traveller on them? As far as I understand the Euro Traveller is £3/day and it allows you to use your allowance when abroad and calling UK numbers. Are you going to save £3/day by having a plan with Euro Traveller?

thanks for the link johnw, I hope you can shed more light into this. I have enquired about one of the Red Value bundles over the chat. Basically I was comparing two plans with the same allowances including data, however one of them had the Euro Traveller and was £29 upfront vs. the other one without Euro Traveller and was £0 upfront. I have asked the question: "Does the one with Euro Traveller mean I can use my allowance without having to pay £3/day?" The answer was, "No, you still have to pay the £3/day to use your allowance, but you don't have to activate Euro Traveller because we have activated it for you." I have followed up: So you charge a customer £29 for a pre activation of a roaming plan? "Yes, you benefit from this by not having to activate the Euro Traveller when you travel abroad." I think that was a load of BS. As the activation is free and takes a call to 191 or perhaps can be activated through one of the VF apps I cannot imagine VF would charge £29 for a defaultly activated roaming plan.

I have never heard of that before.

There was an option including calls back to the UK as part of the package but you still had to pay the £3 if you used data or sent text messages.
