HTC One M7 microphone not working

bill-lancaster

Have read related posts on this but didn't see much that helped.

The microphone on my M7 has recently ceased to work properly in phone calls.  The sound is muffled and very faint (as heard at the other end of the call).

Voice Recorder works fine.

Using the speaker phone for telephone calls also works fine.

Any ideas?

Hi

Usually the culprit is lint etc in the mic port or a case or screen shield is hindering it. Some have found resolution by a soft rebooting by turning it off and on or after a back up a Factory Reset.

Is this happening everywhere ? If so that would rules out mast issues then the handset hardware maybe at issue.

Htc would be be able to assist via their Uk Contact Site or if purchased direct from Vodafone they can send it off to be looked at.

Vodafone apply a 24 month manufacturing warranty as do HTC,but this does not cover issues resulting from drops or water damage etc.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Yes the muffled 'phone call happens everywhere.

It sounds like a physical muffling effect.  Tried to vacuum the 'phone but no improvement!

That rather points to something other than a microphone fault.  It's a bit of a long shot, but it might be worth trying a ne SIM - any Vodafone shop can give you one and also activate it.

The next step would probably be a factory reset, but let's see if we can avoid that.

You're Welcome.

This may then be hardware related and in need of an engineer to look at. I would first try HTC Uk support as they'll know their products better than anyone.

Secondary option in my opinion would be to let Vodafone send it away.

This doesn't sound like a foriegn object issue clogging the microphone because other voice recording apps work properly.

I suspect there is an issue with the Phone dialer app?

Personally I would back up my Phone and do a factory reset now.

You have nothing to lose because the repair centre will factory reset the phone anyway...

If the issue is still there after a reset then it must be hardware related.

TSD.

Thanks for that.  i realised that the phone was due an upgrade.  The new one should arrive in the next 2 days.  After transfering everything to the new one I'l do a factory reset and post the results here.

Thank you for your update. :smileyhappy:

Looking forward to hearing how things go.

As bandofbrothers said; thanks for the update 😊

What Phone did you go for as an upgrade?
Did you stick with HTC or have you tried a different manufacturer?

TSD. 😉
