Hi. My HTC has been receiving and sending emails just fine for ages. This afternoon it suddenly stopped sending emails. I use the HTC Mail function. It fact, the Mail app crashes when I try to type text into a message and it asks me if I want to send an error report to HTC. Other key information below:
My conclusion is that an HTC software update may have downloaded automatically this afternoon and that it has bugs in it. Or some other settings have mystersiouly changed.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Hugh

Hi,
If I have email issues on my iPhone I go into its settings and delete the email settings, and re enter them to reset them back up.
Have you perhaps tried this on your Htc?
Perhaps try an alternative email app.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have just deleted and reset up one of the email accounts and have the same issue. The HTC Mail app is crashing when I try to compose or reply to an email. Receiving emails is fine.
It seems to me more like a software issue. Even if there are configuration issues, they shouldn't crash the mail app. Still perplexed.
I use my phone for both work and personal emails so is quite an issue if I can't fix it. Not sure whether I should take it up with Vodafone or HTC?
It would be good if I could see a historical list of updates that have been applied to the phone and back-out any Mail related ones from yesterday.

You're welcome.
Did you give an alternative email app a go too ?

In this type of scenario the first self remedy to try is a factory reset. It's a bit of a pain but if you prepare properly it's ok.
A factory reset usually solves issues like this and should be the first step before you think about a repair.

Thanks both. I have just phoned HTC support who were extremely helpful. They are aware of the problem. It was caused by a software update yesterday afternoon as I suspected.
The temporary fix worked which was to remove the offending update. For this particular issue, it could be found as follows:
Go to Settings then Apps.
Swipe left until you see ALL in the heading and click
The remove the Android System Webview update

A perfect example of what this forum is all about.
Thanks for posting the solution.
