Help! Just Wiped Software Off K3565 Dongle

Trying to get VMC to work with Windows 2000 SP4. Unfortunately ran VMC 3.1 and it wiped everything on the dongle which was v9.3.6 or something and now only has v3.1 which installs when you plug the USB dongle in and doesn't recognize itself!

It's v3.1 so only sees 2G networks and the 3G dongle is unknown. So now I have a useless USB stick since none of the v9+ VMC software actually installs to the stick - it all goes straight to computer.

How can I restore the v9 software onto the dongle?

Just found that there is someone else with this problem at;
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=35652

The problem is that Vodafone have a version of their VMC software that updates the computer and another, earlier version, that wipes the USB stick instead.... which is just nuts. How can you have v3 wiping the USB stick, without warning, even when Adam_Vodafone states;
I'm not too sure how it's possible to overwrite the software on the dongle as this is set by default to 'read only'

Well, clearly version 3.x of your software doesn't have a problem writing to the stick.

Vodafone, can you please get me a v9 copy of the software that I can write to the stick? And also can you remove v3 from your site or put a warning stating it will wipe the USB stick as right now I'm none to happy with how your software is set to delete without warning?

Hi Bumblebee1, welcome to the eForum.

From what you've said, it sounds like you installed the latest version of VMC lite rather than VMC - as you can see from our VMC software updates page, there are different options for each.

Can you try running the download to the full VMC v9.4.3 (the top left link on that page) for me and test again for me. In order to see if there is an issue and resolve this we'll need to see how the latest version would work here, andI suspect it may also resolve the issue by ensuring everything is the latest availavble version.

Let us know how you get on with that. I'm confident we can get this sorted for you.

Hi DaveN,

the problem is, as you say, that I have managed to put VMC Lite onto the USB - mainly because it lets me, with no failsafe. It still works with VMC 9.4.3.16284 on the PC as long as I don't let the dongle do it's autoplay but the issue is that I now have a useless USB dongle that won't work on any other computer.

The whole point of having the dongle is so I can stick it into a PC with no internet capability and it will automatically install VMC 9.x and then connect over 3G. Now it can't do that at all because it installs VMC Lite 3.1 and then fails to see the device or understand what 3G is!!! So the dongle is stuffed.

VMC 3.1 Lite very cleverly formats the dongle as CDFS so the computer sees it as a read-only CDROM which makes replacing the older software with 9.4.3.16285 somewhat impossible.... at least for me.

Do you have a version (or can your tech guys knock an msi up) that will auto-install the latest version on top of the VMC Lite 3.1 that is currently on the dongle?

Hi Bumblebee1,

It's a shame to read that you're suffering this problem, but sadly there's little that we could do I'm afraid. We don't have a firmware upgrade available for your modem, but when one is available it's possible the pre-loaded VMC will be updated too.

Until then, I can only advise you to submit it for a repair.

Let us know if we can help further!

Hi Daz,

that's what I thought. Could you tell me whether the repair is covered under warranty? it's less than 1 year old and since it was the software on the site that stuffed it I assume I'm covered.

Hi bumblebee1,

Don’t worry, you shouldn’t have any problems getting this repaired under your warranty. :)

All the best,
