Help Needed For Activate My Lenovo Mobile Broadband!

I bought a Lenovo notebook with a 30-day trial of Vodafone mobile broadband which is needed to be activated , I followed the sign up screen to call 08700 700 053, and was told to activate it, I need a mobile no.(there is no mobile no. on my sim card!), and then I tried to visit www.vodafone.co.uk/builtin, and the website doesn't exist at all! Could anybody please tell me how to activate my mobile broadband? many thanks in advance.

As far as we know there are no issues getting started.

Here are the details we have.


If you have already purchased your new Lenovo ThinkPad.

  • Simply activate your free trial by calling our dedicated team on 08700 700 053, or visit the Builtin website
  • All you need to do is provide us with your name and address and contact number (no payment details necessary), plus details of where your Lenovo ThinkPad(s) was/were purchased.
  • You will also need the ICCID of the SIM in the laptop - this can be found on a sticker under your Lenovo ThinkPad notebook or in your Lenovo Mobile Broadband Connection Manager
The SIM details we need are a 20 digit number that you can also find through the “Mobile Broadband Connect” application, which is located in the Start menu of your Lenovo laptop.

Please follow these steps: click on the start menu, select all programs, ThinkVantage then Mobile Broadband Connect. Once you have loaded this software click the ‘Sign up’ button on the welcome page and your SIM details will be presented with your device IMEI details.

The 08700 number is an exclusive support line for the trial.

i followed this thread and clicked on the 'builtin' link.  It did not take me to an activation page.  I am not convinced Vodaphone have yet sorted this out.  Surely it's not that hard to resolve?

Hi, I'm not sure I'm at the right place but I'll give it a go.

I just bought a Lenovo T510 with a Vodafone 30 day Trial SIM card.
I live/work in Sweden but next month I'm going on a business trip to London and I thought it would be great to utilize the deal with free mobile web access.

Is it possible for me to activate this while in Sweden so it will work when I land in London? When I use the Lenovo ThinkVantage tools I get this:

Is it possible for me to activate it from Sweden? Can I use the site the Vodafone people linked to? How?

I can confirm that you will need to be in the UK in order for this to be activated. You'll just need to call 08700700053 and then select option 1.

Hi, having recently got a Thinkpad, I have exactly the same problem. I have tried the non-existent website (/builtin) and 08700700053 where I spoke to four different people over the course of about 20 minutes, none of whom knew what I was walking about and eventually just tried to sell me a data plan.

I am reluctant to spend more time trying to get through to people on a service that have no idea this exists, is that the only way?

As you can see from the previous posts, this was as offer available earlier this year, so the details may have changed in the meantime.

I have raised this so we can look to confirm what you need to do to activate this now, and we'll be back as soon as we have any information. In the meantime, can you comnfirm for me when and where you purcahsed the Thinkpad for reference?

Okay, but how do I activate the modem? Or is it locked to Vodafone? Seems strange for a business model bought in Sweden...
I've bought a SIM card from the Swedish carrier Telia but the modem does not want to work with it.

Thanks for your post here.

If you pruchased the device in Sweden then it is likely to be a swedish product and as such you will need to talk to the carrier in sweden from whom your purchased the device so that they can unlock it for you.


The number that George has given you is for if the product is a UK product purchased from a UK retailer/network provider.
