As the phone is an S6 by definition it is less than six months old. The seller does not own the phone. The sale is illegal. Don't pay the money. Tell him why and report it to Ebay.

If you take possession of the phone there is no guarantee that the seller will send it to you and if it is still subject to a current contract he could well report it lost or stolen and as a result the phone will be blocked and rendered useless. Your next course of action would now be to contact the seller and tell him to cancell the sale considering that he cannot provide you with any proof of the phones status or legallity. Give Ebay a ring and explain your concerns to them and they will give you further advice but in the mean time do not pay, you could tell the seller that you are not paying until you've been given advice as to the legality of him selling it whilst still on contract. If you do have to complete the transaction and pay you may be in a stronger position as it may then be easier to get your money back but you'r call to eBay will tell you this. In my opinion something doesn't seem quite right with this seller. I would never buy a phone from an internet auction that was locked to a service provider for this very reason.

My History

in 2013 i got Galaxy S4 (i9505) brand new sealed in box from Ebay contract phone locked to 02 but he unlocked it for me free with unlock code. and gave me 02 original receipt with the phone and guess what???? never got blocked.

then in 2014 i got HTC One contract phone from Ebay NO original receipt... not blocked

MashAllah

so not everyone is same.

about galaxy S6

i didn't buy the phone becuase he didn't want to gave original receipt.

but he might have been genuine seller. 50 out of 50 chance.

didn't want to take the risk this time.

more peace of mind buying a factory unlocked phone with lots of customer feed back. or local shop.. carphone warehouse.

so this is what i understand so far.

the sim get blocked not the phone, if contract not paid for.
you get black listed.

phone gets blocked only with insurance or report to police lost or stolen.

The SIM on any phone can be blocked by suspending the service to it by the provider. The IMEI number, International Mobile Station Equipment Identity is the one that is blocked and black listed if the phone is reported lost or stolen, this is the action that would render the phone useless, the SIM can be replaced. If a phone is locked then you have to use a SIM from the service provider that the phone is locked to. You did the right thing by not buying it.

got my phone from carphone warehouse instead.

+1

I never knew aboutt the 6 month ownership condition. Does that apply to 12 month contracts as well?

Evidently not all Vodafone employees appear to be aware of this either as I remember a sales agent in the past advising me that the phone was "mine" from the start of the contract.
