why can't i get vodafone network on my iPad at home but the same Sim payg works on in my dongle at home, I have just been to the Vodafone shop and it works fine in there but the girl I spoke to said there were different sim cards for i pads and dongles. The sim  is a payg data sim which i have been trying to use since December 2016.

@mainmarine - Different networks operate on different frequencies - therefore the coverage provided by each provider does vary.

Sorry I don't have a vodafone mobile, I only bought this sim card to check out your signal before I took out a contract, I use a three dongle at the moment for the internet at home, which is ok but I wanted to get a better deal with someone else if possible. I do not have a land line and only use mobile devices. I have a spare PAYG Tesco mobile which gets a good signal all the time, at home.

I believe Tesco mobile piggybacks off O2, which stacks with your other findings.

@mainmarine We'd need you to test your SIM in a different mobile device to determine if there's an issue with your iPad.

If you're still unable to get a signal once you've tested your SIM in a different device, get back to us and we'll investigate further.

Hi as I stated earlier it works in my dongle but don't know how strong the signal is but I can't stand holding my iPad out of the roof light anyway. I am the other side of Nottingham and it works fine in my iPad.

@mainmarine If you're having connection issues whilst your SIM is in your mobile dongle, please get back to us and we'll investigate further.

From the various investigations you have made, I'm inclined to agree that there is a weaker Vodafone signal in your home than in your postcode area as a whole, possibly as a result of the power cables that you describe. Certainly it doesn't sound like good news if you have to put the dongle out of the rooflight in order to get an adequate signal. On this basis, you might be better off using a different network.

However, if I had bought a top-end device such as an iPad, and found that it was being outperformed by a dongle, I think I'd also be a little concerned whether the iPad was up to scratch. As I gather that it's still under warranty, I think I'd want to take it to Apple, and get them to check it over.

Hi I am going to take it to the local apple dealer when I get time, my son worked for them until recently but he has started a new job and is in the USA at the moment.

@mainmarine Let us know the outcome after visiting your local Apple store.

Ok, will do, although it is not a store, they are a commercial apple company

Hi I have been to Apple and they say the iPad is fine, so it must be your signal or lack of it at my home address, they said the only thing I can do is get it unlocked from Vodafone and try a different network, one that shows up when it is set it to manual search.

I have already applied to Vodafone for an unlock code but no response yet.
