K3570-Z - Laptop has RAS 635 error, Mac's won't connect

Hello,

I write this from my phone so forgive any typos!

I bought a k3570-z as a PAYG last week. It seemed to work ok for the first few days. Now, it's unusable. On my laptop, it brings up error code RAS 635. On my two macs it does not have an error code but has the same problem - it's unable to connect.

Perhaps in one in twenty attempts it will connect. The connection will last for twenty seconds or so, before output drops to 0kbps and addresses time out.

Can anyone advise what to do? please bear in mind my only Internet connections are this non-working dongle, and my phone. Suggesting I download the latest software won't be of use because I can't get online to download it!

Thanks.

Hi Caboose,

To be honest with this type of issue the first step to to download and install the latest Version (V4) of VMC or Mac's.

I understand that you have no other internet connection so the best way to get this would be to download it using a WIFI connection where there is a free WIFI system in place. ( EG. Mcdonald's)

Can you confirm that VMC is picking up the device and displaying signal available for a connection? you then get the error when trying to connect?

Hello again,

I tried as James suggested and downloaded the latest versions of the Connect software via wifi, on the Mac this is the 4.01.11.00 revision, I don't have the PC version number to hand but it was from the same download page. The first three days or so it worked fine and I was able to connect quite happily, but as of yesterday the problem has restarted - device detected, 3G signal detected (2 bar strength) but when connecting, I get the 'Could not create network settings. Check that the APN, username and password in the current connections settings are correct' message.

The APN settings are ppbundle.internet and web respectively.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no effect.

Is it that the dongle is faulty? If so, can I return it to any Vodafone store for a replacement or does it have to be from where I purchased it (I've since moved from the area where I bought it - the dongle was bought as a stop gap whilst I wait for home broadband).

Thanks.

hello Caboose and thanks for posting.

it's strange that the device should stop working in this way, especially since it was previously operational.

You can take it to any of our stores to have it looked at and possibly sent off for a repair, my advise is to go ahead and approach the store and then keep us posted via the eForum as to your progress. If you are still experiencing difficulties then we will see how best to help.

I would also advise testing it on a windows machine, just to make sure the dongle itself is 100% functional otherwise a repair/replacement may not make a difference.

Thanks
