This is quite a strange one in all honesty but have a few suggestions for you to get this issue resolved.
If you could try the USB Modem in a different USB port and check whether you have the BUS loaded in to your operating system:
Control panel>System> Device manager
This seems to have worked with other USB BB users in the past so it's certainly worth a go.
