K4201Z wi-fi dongle not getting 3G

I have just moved into a flat with no internet and bought a Vodafone mobile broadband dongle as a temporary measure. It would not connect but now works after I downloaded newer software (not easy with no internet connection at home!). However, now I only get a GPRS signal and it's SO SLOW! The coverage map on the vodafone site says I should get 3G and my mobile phone on another network picks it up fine so it's not the building that is the problem.

I should get my broadband installed in about 3 weeks but how do I get 3G mobile broadband in the meantime?
