Location Wrong

4: Newbie

For some reason my SureSignal is reporting my location (phones location services) as somewhere over 100 miles away from where I am.

When I connect my phone to the phone mast (by turning off SureSignal) my location is fine, when I connect just via WiFi it's fine and when I use GPS it's fine but as soon as I reconnect it to my SureSignal it thinks I'm somewhere else.

This was perfectly fine until yesterday, nothing has changed my end. How can this be fixed?

Hi terryh,

Thanks for posting. This could be due to the way Sure Signal is set up. When you check the settings on the Sure Signal dashboard, is your postcode up to date?

If so, which make and model of phone is it you're using?

Cheers, Ben

Hi tonytango,

I can see that we looked into this in December (here) and asked you to drop us an email.

Did you get in touch with us and if so, has this been ok between then and now?

Thanks,

Jenny

Just thought I'd add a response (as this is my original post) to say that mine has now fixed itself.

Seems to be OK at the moment at least.

Hi guys,

When you're connected via the network, your phone uses local cellsites to triangulate your general location.

The Sure Signal doesn't do this. Instead, it depends on where your Sure Signal's connection meets with our network.

The result of this is that phones connected to your Sure Signal won't always show the correct location. It's usually reasonably close, and may change from time to time.

There's no way to manually force the location the Sure Signal transmits to connecting devices.

That said, in tonytango's case I'm aware that you're seeing different things from different phones.

I can't see any emails to our team from the address you've registered on the eForum.

You should have got an automated response with a reference number in the subject - something like "[#1234567]". If you can post that we can locate the email for you.
