hi im having problems using the vodaphone360.com smpt server workround for mobile broadband modems.

im using windows live mail and ive created a seperate account with my pop3 settings from my talktalk account and the smtp server settings for the 360 smtp server but still cant make this work. can you give me a run down on the best way to make these settings co-exist with my domestic talktalk email account. also why is this workround necessay ? why cant i just use my existing smtp server thanks.

If you just use plain smtp without authentication it's very likely your existing server will reject the
connection either immediately or if also acting as incoming server at the mailto command. If it did
accept such connections it would be very quickly flagged as an open relay and blocklisted
same as send.vodafone.net.

If your existing server does support authentication there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to
use it.

Hi aid,

Can you let us know exactly what settings you have for the SMTP server? We may be able to spot where things are going wrong :)
Screenshots would be very useful.

Hi this may well be a ports issue, TCP/IP port 25 is only open on mobile broadband to Vodafone's own servers. try setting the outgoing SMTP port to 587 or check with your email supplier as to which ports are live on his servers.

@ neil

thanks for your reply ive tried switching smtp ports but no dice, after a little research it seems that talktalk only use port 25 so if vodafone reserve port 25 for there own use then using my own smtp server is probably not an option.

In Servers/Settings I assume you have added your 360.com username and password?

In Advanced tab you should tick use SSL and change port from 25 to 465.
