Mobile Broadband - Sites Not Loading

Hello ,
I recently bought a Vodafone mobile broadband USB ( pay as you go) . The first couple of times I used it , it was fine but for the past couple of days I can't get online . The connection speed shows as '3G - good' and there is a steady pale blue light on the USB , but when I launch Internet Explorer it seems to freeze - a bit of my home page ( title and stuff) appears but then it just stops . I've tried waiting for 20 -30 minutes , but no improvement . Any suggestions ?

Hi aife

Thanks for the post and welcome to the Vodafone eForum :)

I know it seems like a daft question but I have to ask, do you have credit on the device?

When you're having this problem are you always in the same place or do you get the
issue no matter where you are?

What OS is the laptop running? Is it Vista or XP?

There are a few things that you can try to do to sort this out.

Can you uninstall the software and then reinstall it and try again?

Do you have a Vodafone mobile?

If so can you remove the sim from the usb stick and put it into the mobile and attempt to make
a WAP connection.

Once you've done this can you put the sim back into the usb and try again.

If you also know someone else with a laptop, can you try the device in that and see if the same issue occurs.

Please let me know how you get on.

Thanks

If your problem affects only certain websites, then it sounds to me like it might be another candidate for the issues in this thread: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=35483

My suggestion of changing the Registry MaxConnectionsPerServer helps mitigate (but not eliminate) the problem.
Another work-around you might also try is using Firefox and the "no-cache" headers add-in that many people on here swear by (tho I've not tried it myself yet, it does make sense).

For me, with IE7 and the MaxConnections hack, the homepage at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ still takes several minutes (no exaggeration) to fully load via VF mobile broadband, despite my "raw bandwidth" for large files being around 1.2Mbps (143kBps).
