Mobile Broadband - issues with k3565 on windows 7

I have just replaced my Tosihiba laptop with Windows Vista for another Toshiba with windows 7. My connection works perfectly fine on the Vista machine with the original VMC lite loaded from the dongle. When used on the new laptop the VMC lite keeps dropping the connection and runs slowly. Having followed numerous suggestions from the forum I now have the latest software loaded but no connection is possible the error RAS 628 comes up. Both laptops are are running the same software and are set up the same. Any chance some one can point me in the right direction. I have spent hours following the topics, some make sense some are over my head. Is it just cheaper to get a new windows 7 compatible device as my hourly rate must be about 10p an hour by now just trying to get it to work.

Good luck is all I can say, there is so much conflicting information regarding the K3565 and Windows 7, some say the pre-loaded software works OK, others say it only works with the latest VMC, there are issues with Windows 7 being a clean install or just an update, I'm just hoping mine will be OK when I get to the UK again.
I have downloaded the new VMC onto laptop ready to be unpacked but I'm hoping as mine was a clean install of Windows 7 the older, pre-installed software will work fine as that seems the general consensus.
Of course there is always the option of connecting using network connection in Windows 7, but you will not be able to monitor your usage etc.

Hi Bazzerk,

There should be no problems with Windows 7 and this modem running the latest version of Vodafone Mobile Connect, so I'm sure we can get this working again :)

The error RAS 628 indicates that there's a problem with the dial-up connection in Windows. This could be because of leftovers from the VMC Lite software, which have not been removed properly. I recommend you go into Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre > Manage Network Connections, and delete any VMC dial-up connections you see there.

When you next run Vodafone Mobile Connect and press the Connect button, our software will automatically create a new dial-up connection with all of the right settings. It may fail on the first attempt while it writes this connection, but simply wait 10 seconds and then try pressing connect again if it doesn't work first time.

Let me know if this resolves the issue :)

Sorry you might need to be a bit more specific. The only 'Manage networks' I can see in the network sharing area is 'manage wireless networks' and the vmc is not listed there. I have tried with the dongle in and out. When I plug dongle in it says device found and asks to connect to gprs but that is as far as it gets after a long search. This is on payg.

Hi there Bazzerk!

Can you try changing your Control Panel to Classic view? This will reveal options as they should be. After this, please try the following as described above.

You also may want to try another USB port, in case there is a conflict.

If you're not 100% sure on delving into the network protocols on your computer, I would suggest enlisting hands-on aid from a friend who is - we are not official Microsoft / Windows support advisers so any changes you make to your computer will be at your own risk (be sure to have an up to date save/restore point set!).

Let us know how you get on - any screenshots of the error will help too! I'm confident that we'll get this resolved for you :)
