Depends on whether the linux kernel on the notebook supports the dongle in question.
One thing you don't need to do is "Install" anything from the dongle. Nothing on there of interest to Linux.

If that distro of Linux has a network manager that has a tab for mobile broadband, it's usually a matter of inserting the dongle, go to network manager tab, create a new mobile connection, and type in the APN for your Vodafone service.

In Ubuntu its easy (see here ) In Linpus linux lite, you'll just have to try it, although their website does claim HSDPA support..

No idea if the Betavine VMC software will work on Lite, but it screws up my Ubuntu badly.
