Mobile Network State 'disconnected'

Hi
Desperately need help with this. I'm using a small Samsung Galaxy (fully updated) with a PAYG sim as a spare to my iPhone for travelling (plan to leave iPhone locked while I trek / camp).
I've topped up with £40 and can use the phone with wifi but not without wifi! It describes my 'state' as disconnected :Winking_smiley:
Any help as I can't open / use the Vodaphone App as it insists I turn off wifi and use data for the first sign in. Which obviously I can't!

@Vickyloulou

How long since you last used the PAYG SIM? If it has been over 270 days, the number could have been disconnected - see the PAYG Terms and Charges.

But in that case it shouldn't have been possible to top up the number - how did you do that?

Are you able to try the SIM in a different phone?

I think you probably need help from Live Chat, who should be able to see what is happening with your account.

Once you have this sorted, be sure to check that you don't have a roaming bar in place on your account. Live Chat may be able to look at this at the same time, if the initial problem isn't too complicated.

Hi, it's a brand new sim and I can make calls and send texts, but can only be online via wifi.
I haven't engaged a roaming block (I've checked) & I've got ample credit.
How do I acces live chat? Do I need to do that from the phone? Support couldn't help me earlier as I was calling from my main mobile which is with O2 (a damn sight more competent that Vodaphone so I'm glad I'm not stuck to this and it's only PAYG!
Thanks I'll persevere.

Hi. I know this may sound like a daft question but do you have data turned on in the phone settings? Which phone are you using?

Have you checked the APN settings to see what is selected in there?

Good point, @63johnw

If it's the phone's first outing on Vodafone, the APN might well need changing.

Two useful guides:

Also @Annie_N I remember some of my older samsungs asking me to pick the APN during set up and the wording wasnt always very clear on which setting went with PAYG or Monthly contract and there were reports of the wrong one being chosen on more than one occasion.
