Mobile data won't turn on

HI, I just got back from Thailand and I have just put my old sim back into my S5. I've turned the mobile data on and there is full signal but it just won't connect, the symbol doesn't come up at the top and it doesn't work. The wifi works fine and I have airplane mode turned off. I've tried turning it on and off, restarting it, removing the battery but It won't work. I also a freebee which lets me use free internet too but I can't use any of it. What do I do to fix it? without wiping my phone...

The first thing would be to check the Network Status.   It's possible there's a fault in your area.   Can you also try the phone somewhere else and see if you can get a connection there?

When you put the SIM in, did you get a text saying something along the lines of "something's changed and we'll send you settings"?   I wouldn't expect mobile data not to come on just because the access point settings on the phone were wrong, but it's a possibility.  Try texting WEB to 40127 and see if that gets you anywhere.   You can also look in Settings|Mobile Data (and then More) if necessary to find Access Point Names and check that the Vodafone ones are there and set as the default.  If you're on PAYG, it should say Vodafone PAYG WAP.

It's possible that your phone has simply developed a fault, but there are things you can try before going for a full reset and, ultimately, a repair.

my friend had a similar issue with her S4 ... the solution was to simply turn it off pull the batter out for 30s then put the battery back in and turn back on ...
