Hi all I've enclosed a picture of my down load just to show comparison to what BANDOFBROTHERS received in his update 1st im glad I got it at last but what it has done I'm not so sure as I can not tell anything different from when before I installed it.
But my main point was the monthly security updates that the s8 got Google mentioned in February that they were to start releasing monthly updates and the s8 has just been upgraded to receive them now I know my s7 edge is not a flagship any more but I got in February so they were still being sold with hefty price tags and now it seems they have sold nearly all thwart ones it seems we don't matter
Not all of us can afford up upgrade once a year or 2 for that matter (this is genuine) if it wasn't for Vodafone offering me a mega deal I would of had no way of getting a device like this.
I hope this trend with Samsung doesn't pass on the Oreo update although it will be a while if I do get it but it's not looking good on the forums
One was saying quote Samsung may be changing the number of times an operating update to the one it comes with and the one after.this doesn't sound genuine but I'm sure if it's true the backlash won't do Samsung's reputation no good when it's seems to be trying to get people to trust them again.
Previous trends have been 2 major updates as well as the security patches.
Also it was nice to see although it doesn't get major updates it does say they are still releasing security patches for the S5 and that must be 3 to 4 years old now but it's still good if true I just hope the nearly 500mb update I have just received will make my battery life longer
NOTE yes this is a little rant but there is no hate, malice it's just a quiet moan
Solved! Go to best answer.

Everyone deserves a rant now and then @DRUIDDOODE
Security patches are indeed important thus should always be pished out asap.
As I've mentioned in the.past due to network testing of updates for their branded phones this can sometimes delay things. But that said I've known updates hit branded phones before unbranded phones in the past !
I keep seeing that Samsung push out firmware updates quarterly but as Samsung nor Vodafone make comments on timeframes for releases then it's a case of believing what you will.
Personally I tend to find software released originally on the phone can work best as the hardware has been optimised to work on that phone but the guys do well imo in tailoring it for older phones but sometimes not all features are available die to hardware restraints. I would should agree that Oreo will be available to s7 edge and s7 models.

I know I'm on quarterly updates but the update info for the s8 said added monthly security updates that was that bit that annoyed me.I'm sure but not 100% it was you but some put a screen shot of there update info and it was there
Monthly updates added
Even though I've just installed the update it's taken me from June1 security August1 last time I checked my watch I thought and still do think were in September
Don't understand that at all with all the vulnerabilities in android I don't use apps any more unless I really need it.
It only takes one bad one and they do get through on Google play quite often although they do there best and get removed. As far as I can see with the volume they have to deal with.they don't do bad are you listening Samsung
NOTE off topic
Listened to a brilliant podcast last night Joe rogan had an ex employee who had some privileged access to places in the Burling and off record meetings it's on you tube but it gives you a different view
