So in this story, Vodafone are the heros but thought you guys would be interested in some sneaky practises going on across the water in the Republic of Ireland ahead of the new roaming rules that take effect in June.
So 3, the network offering 'all you can eat' data isn't keen on the idea of customers taking their 'all you can eat' abroad.
So their new plans now offer 'All you can eat data' as a service benefit whilst in Ireland. The core package offers between 1GB and 7GB of data and charges of €61.10 per GB would apply for data used above these allowances whilst roaming.
The European Commission are not happy at this effort to exploit a loophole to offer 'selective roaming'. There is no loophole where part of the domestic data cold be regarded as a gift or side benefit so would not wount when travelling abroad.
So whilst 3 are being being slippery, Vodafone IE have said they welcome the regulation and are fully embracing it. They say they have a unique roaming propisition and with the EU regulation, they are not increasing prices.
So.... 3 Ireland are trying their luck. Let's see if they (or anyone else) attempt it over here!
